The job-change playbook

When someone in your network changes jobs, a window opens. New leaders arrive with a mandate to change things, budget that isn't committed yet, and no incumbent vendors defending their turf. They also bring what they already trust, and the research on buyer behavior consistently shows new executives make their biggest purchases early in their tenure.

The window is roughly 90 days. After that, priorities are set, budgets are allocated, and you're pitching against decisions instead of into them. Here's how to use it.

The three-touch sequence

Day 1 to 14: the congratulations

Congrats on the new role at {company}! Big move. No agenda here, just genuinely pleased for you. How are the first couple of weeks treating you?

Why it works: Zero ask. You're re-opening the thread while their notifications are full of one-line 'congrats!' spam. A real question stands out.

Day 30 to 60: the useful check-in

How's month one at {company} going? When I've seen people step into {role} roles, the first thing that bites is usually {relevant problem}. If it's useful, happy to share what worked for {similar company}. Either way, rooting for you.

Why it works: New leaders are building their 90-day plan right now. You're offering material for it, not pitching.

Day 60 to 90: the direct one

You're a couple of months in now, so you'll know where the gaps are. If {problem you solve} is one of them, I'd love to show you how {your product} handles it. 20 minutes, and if it's not relevant I'll say so first.

Why it works: By now they have budget conversations underway and political capital to spend. New leaders disproportionately buy in their first year, and they buy from people already in their orbit.

The hard part is knowing

LinkedIn buries job changes in a feed you don't read. The reliable way to catch every one: export your connections today, export again next month, and diff the two files. Anyone whose company changed is in the window right now.

You can do that by hand with our DIY spreadsheet, or let the job-change diff engine do it monthly, ranked by how well each person matches your ICP.

Catch every job change, automatically

The Pipeline plan diffs your exports monthly and hands you the new-in-role priority queue, scored by ICP fit.
